Theater for the Deaf in NYC uses CiviCRM for Ticketing

Hands On

Hands On is a New York City-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing greater access to arts and cultural programs for the Deaf and hard of hearing communities. Hands On is one of the only organization of its kind offering not only interpreted performances in the not-for-profit theatrical arena, but information on deafness and the arts across the city and country. In its 25+ years, Hands On has established a national reputation for providing high-quality interpreted theater. We have a core audience of loyal and committed Deaf theater-goers, but given a large Deaf signing population in the New York metropolitan area (estimated 75,000) the untapped audience potential is quite large. Understanding the Deaf community and it’s culture, peer trust is a very important component to community involvement and we feel we have the ability to increase the awareness of theater and the arts to a large, as yet untapped audience. Hands On needed a cost-effective way to accept ticket payments online and manage its database of supporters. With the assistance of some custom Drupal module code, CiviCRM provided just that.

Background

To provide a way for visitors to purchase tickets for individual performances and also for a series of performances, and also allow the staff to easily be able to generate lists of attendees for each performance.

Challenges

To create a way to allow visitors to register for a series of performances, and have that one event registration create pseudo-registrations for the chosen performance events.

Solution

CiviCRM was the natural choice due to it being open source and having the basic features required already built in.

Functionality

Event series.
